落語は、立川談志に強い影響を受け、1983年に談志が落語立川流を創設した直後に、立川流に参加している。
英語落語は、同じ頃、英語落語を始めた上方の桂枝雀の活動に触発されたことがはじめるきっかけとなった。
落語の他、色物としてウクレレを弾き、端唄、俗曲、都々逸、Jポップスなどを日英両語で歌う活動もしている。
これまでに90席ほどの落語を英語でかけている。
これまで、国内では、小学校から大学までの教育機関、JICAや大使館等の国際機関、民間企業など、海外では、アメリカ、イギリス、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、デンマーク、フィンランド、ジョージア、カザフスタン、ラオスで公演をしている。

Profile of Kanariya Eiraku
Real name: Tatsuya Sudo

Founder of the Canary English Rakugo School
Born in Aichi Prefecture
He was strongly influenced by Tatekawa Danshi, and joined the Tatekawa school of rakugo shortly after Danshi established it in 1983.
His involvement in English rakugo was inspired around the same time by the activities of Katsura Shijaku, a Kamigata rakugo performer who had begun performing rakugo in English.
In addition to rakugo, he also performs as a variety entertainer, playing
the ukulele and singing genres such as hauta (traditional songs), zokkyoku (popular songs), dodoitsu, and J-pop in both Japanese and English.
To date, he has performed approximately 90 rakugo stories in English.
In Japan, he has performed at educational institutions ranging from elementary
schools to universities, as well as at international organizations such
as Japan International Cooperation Agency and embassies, and at private companies.
Overseas, he has performed in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia,
New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Laos.
He has published “Eiraku’s 100 English Rakugo Stories” (3 volumes), which contains scripts for 100 stories in English.
